Sunray S12 Questions & Concerns?.......

Hi,

Just got a S12 coil for my Elite .....Looks great, Feels great, I really like it cant wait to hunt with it very soon....took it out for a try in the backyard and I noticed after calibrating my ML meter to 180 which was easy to do.....that on shallow targets 2-6" or so I get a nice 180 & high tone on a Silver Quarter BUT the deeper you get or the higher you lift the S12 above the target about 12" or so you start to get lower target audio and lower ID Numbers? Is this normal for the deepies or?

That is normal on all the Sovereigns when doing air test or preburried coins and also will let you know how some of the real deep one sound. I also feel the Elite I notice more of the deeper targets weaker sounding than the other Sovereigns and the GT actually seems like it will lock in better and the numbers lock on better on the deeper targets in my opinion.
You need to get it out in a actual hunt and go slow and when you hear those that the tones want to climb and the meter does too, but cant quite make it are the ones you want to dig.Many of the deeper ones over 7 or 8 inches will not read correctly on the meter or the tones may not quite make it, but you can tell it is sure trying to.

Thanx for the clarification as I never used this type of coil on a Sov before that Ive owned...........good to know nothing is wrong & its a normal reaction on super deep targets. Most of my hunting is in big fields or beaches without alot of tracsh at all thats why I got it....people here who I have seen use it do great with it, so Im hoping for success also.

Thank You

hey donny,
good luck with your new coil. get back and let us know how your using it and how your running your elite with your coil i just ordered a s-12 myself.

thanks,
stan pa.

<p>

I was able to get in about 3 hrs before it started rain at a very old 1700's site using the S12 for the first time ....I was a happy camper after swinging it & feeling its light weight, now confident I proceded to hunt and boy you can cover an area with ease. As far as performance I was happy & it does take some getting used to pinpointing wise, but after a half hour or so your on your way to some great DEEP signals..I was able to pull a few goodies from 8" to 12" with no problems Large cent, flat button, 1893 IH,.....If you have big areas to cover without much trash, Baby! the S12 is the Ticket!!

That you got to see the power of the S 12 coil, takes a little getting used too the first time, but when you do you will find it makes the Sovereign come alive. It is not too bad in semi trashy area either as I used to use it in parks too.

very nice finds Donny and glad to hear about that s-12. i'm looking forward to using one.
Les and his friend Nick and myself were just getting started across the river. nick hit a pre-civil war bottom, a silver quarter. it was my first time out with my GT and found a key. we were there only 15 minutes and the heavy rains came and ended that day fast.

Hey Stan, I picked up the probe caps last night, so I have (2) of them for you. Talk to you later. HH, Les
