Sunray S 5 intruder coil

Can some one tell me more about these coils on separation and depth. Thanks

I run one on my Excalibur ll around rip rap. Separation is good, depth 6" to 7" on dimes and quarters. No gold yet. For the money I say no, but that's just me. For me the S-8 is the better buy, ( a true 8" coil ). Not much help I'm afraid.

Same here, helped me clean out a beach with lots of trash but no gold. Many Silvers, nice to have on the burner if needed but would not purchase again. I have the 8 Sunray also and like the stock 800 coil better.....

IMHO the S-5 doesn't perform well on the Sovereign, not enough depth from this small coil.Good Luck Ron

I agree with Ron. In my humble opinion over the years of using the Sovereign, I've come to the conclusion that the best small coil for the Sovereign is the CoinSearch or 8" Tornado coils which are actually closer to a 7" coil (7 1/4" to be exact) as that is the inner windings of those coils. And If I could only have one coil to use, it would be either of those because they still get great depth yet are awesome in the trash. I never got much depth out of the Sunray S-5 either and there are cheaper 5" coils like the Detech that cost half as much and do the same job. Again this is just my own opinion but I have also found that for larger coils, the 10" Tornado was about the best before experiencing too much EMF and ground chatter. Unless your beach hunting with absolutely no electrical interference the WOT is a great coil as well. That coil amazed me with it's ability to still be ably to pick up small items. Not bad for a 14" coil! HH George Fatizzi

I had one for a while myself, but sold it after I used it a few times. It seems to small for the Sovereigns as the 8 inch coinsearch I use and the S-8 of Sun Ray I used could be used in heavy trash and have better depth to, to me the secret is going slower as you could hear good targets in with trash. I haven't tried the 8 inch Tornado coil yet as I sold the one I had and got another one right now, but haven't used it yet, but reports of those that know their Sovereign say it works very good.
On my GT I have the 10 inch Tornado coil and feels it is much better than the older 10 inch BBS coil as we did a test against the 8 inch Coinsearch and the 8 inch did better in all the test we did. For a bigger coil after trying many the Sun Ray S-12 is the one that did much better for me on turf hunting..

It's is a nice coil to have for very trashy areas in the water but it has yet to pay for itself. And it is a 5.5 inch coil if I remember correct. Depth is just about the same as the coil size.
It's like a Very Big coil, only needed in some locations and that's rare, I much prefer the stock coils over all after market,
