Sunray S-12 Coils

Cache Man

New member
Anyone looking for the Sunray S-12 Coils For Their Sovereigns They Are Being Shipped to The Dealers This Week. Mine is due About Friday HH Cache Man:detecting:

Sunray made a new run of the S12 ???

Interesting as Ralph seemed to indicate he had no interest in producing them again

Not enough demand to trouble with them?

For beach hunting maybe the WOT is better as it covers more, but for in land hunting I found the S-12 to be the best bigger coil for the Sovereigns.

n/t

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm guessing the S-12 has better trash seperation? Please give the reasons you feel this to be true...that it's better than the WOT for land hunting. I keep reading stories of the WOT hitting silver coins mixed with iron or on edge (and even then with iron) and it seems that coil has a nack for pulling coins on edge or mixed with iron, which seems to go against the size/masking thing. Still, I'm not making a decision on which of these two coils to buy until I get more input from people so please chime in here. If the WOT is deeper than the S-12 then by how much on say a silver dime, anybody?

for me iv found both the WOT and the S12 the same in depth about 15" on a dime.the smaller the coil with about any DD coil will have a little better seperation just due to the actual size.the S12 is much lighter and just as deep so i like it better.if you want seperation then go smaller in coil like the S8. its a trade off, overall coverage for seperation.the good thing about a Sovereign is i have found silver and iron in the same hole!

I do not recall making that statement regarding the S-12. I have stated many times that we were no longer making the FZ-12 for the Fisher CZ series and probably would not start making them again - unless we decide differently in the future.

The Intruder S-12 for the Sovereign series is still being made and has not been discontinued. Sometimes production is slow as we have more demand for the X series (Explorer/E-Trac, etc.) I hope this clears this up.

I'm now pretty positive that I'll be opting for the Sunray 12" over the WOT. I hear depth is just about the same but the Sunray is better in trash and much lighter, and also pinpoints well. If I was primarily a beach or open field hunter I might opt for the WOT, but I also like to hunt deep in parks and other areas with moderate or heavier trash, so I think the Sunray is my best choice. Now my question. They say this coil is lighter than the stock 10" coil. That's good news, but is it lighter than the new 10" Tornado coils that come with the GT or were they refereing to the older heavier 10" coil? If it is lighter than the new Tornado, by how much? I'd also like to know what the stock weight of the Tornado and Sunray is for reference. Thanks.

By the way, since you guys seem to know the Sunray line, is the S-5 the best small coil out there for target seperation in heavy trash? Does anybody make a smaller coil than the 5, or even a small concentric one to sharpen the coil signal to more of a point for even better seperation?

I don't think you will separate better with a concentric than a DD size for size and even a slightly bigger DD
