sunray probe

I just got a sunray probe for my MXT and have had my detector out 2 times since putting it on. Both times my detector seemed very unstable and very noisy. Today it was like constantly giving a signal beep even when it was not on the ground. Has anyone had any problems after installing the sunray probe???

when I turn it on, it is very noisy with detector at full sensitivity & I can detect a quarter at an inch through the noise. After about 20 seconds, it seems to calm down & I can detect a quarter with it at 3 inches. I bought it used & didn't get any instructions. It's the old one with the coil in the cord. I heard you have to ground balance the probe? I also heard the newer ones have been improved in some way. Sorry I couldn't help more. I guess we need to go to the Sunray forum & ask Ralph. Are you having this problem with the probe turned on or off?? If it is when the probe is off you shouldnt have any problem and i would make sure the connections are all tight and the connectors in all the way with the nut finger tight. I just got in a Sovereign with the problem and found that the plug was not in all the way and the nut was not tight like it should be.
Now if it is only when the probe is on make sure you dont have your gain too high and never in the plus area of the control as it will be noisy.

Glad you said something because I thought it was me imaging the same problem.

I think I'll try an area and then go back over it with it off the machine.
