Sunray Probe with MXT

Anybody using the Sunray probe with your MXT. If so I'd like to hear about it. tks

I bought the DX-1 probe shortly after I purchased the MXT. Having the capability of integrating the DX-1 probe to the MXT and the VDI was one of the reasons I bought the MXT. I have never been a BIG fan of probes, but I bought the SunRay because I look at it more like a small, portable coil or a pinpointer rather than a probe. Everyone's situation is different, but I like the fact that once I am kneeling down on the ground, I can cut the plug, scan the hole and the removed plug, and drastically decrease the time it takes to find the target. Really speeds up the retreiving process which means more time hunting and less time digging. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D"> As well, it means that I don't have to lift the detector off the ground and scan the hole and plug with the larger MXT coils. Especially nice when I am using the larger, heavier coils like my 12.5 EXcelerator. The only problem I encountered was remembering to switch the unit back to MXT coil mode and out of the probe mode. I would sometimes hunt for several minutes before I realized that I had forgotten to flip the toggle back to the regular coil position. Now, I switch the toggle back to detecting mode when I put the pinpointer "back in the saddle" and it has become a habit. (I have attached a picture of how I "trained myself") As to how it works, it is GREAT! It is basically a one inch wide coil with a handle, that allows extreme separation, depth of a couple inches on coin sized targets and VDI readings that match the MXT coils. Like I said, I don't look at it as a probe because I wouldn't want to pry into hard ground with it, but more like a pinpointer that is capable of penetrating loose soil to find targets that are not exposed. Hope this has provided the information you needed. HH

Hey Tek, I have one, that I bought approx. a month ago, and I really like it. I am primarily a water /beach hunter, where I use a water scoop to retrieve almost all of my targets. So dirt hunting is secondary to me, and I am not very good at retrieving targets from the dirt. I bought the DX-1 Probe, and it has significantly improved my retieval time for finding targets in a dirt hole.
It also works off the existing batteries of your MXT, and one less item to carry on your person.
It gives you approx. 3in. of detection, where as all handheld pinpointers give you approx. one in.
That extra 2 inches really makes a difference in time spent trying to retrieve a target from a hole. It is easy to install, so I hope this helps. LOL/HH. NamVetLesTreasureSeeker

Yes I have the DX-1 on my MXT and works great. I have had it for 8 months. Works great on them deep targets after you break the Halo and cannot pick it up with the detector anymore.

Well guess you all have just convinced me to spend a little more money (actually quiet a bit more) thanks for the feed back. tek
