Sunray Probe weight

New member
I've been thinking of getting a Sunray probe for my MXT but am a little concerned of the extra weight on a already fairly heavy detector can I have some input on this?

I use one. I consider the MXT to be a heavy detector, but the sunray doesn't add enough to be without it in my opinion. It works so well that the little bit of extra weight isn't objectionable. My two bits.

The weight definitely IS noticeable. Only you can be the judge as far as your likes or limitations. As BB said though, it's worth every ounce . . in gold.

Tape something under the control box on the stem that weighs about 11 ounces and swing the MXT

This will be somewhere near to the weight you will be swinging if you had the DX 1 fitted.

I would not be without mine

Yep, I totally agree with the others...The DX-1 is an awesome unit....that's for sure... I wish you well and happy hunting .:detecting:

I have an XL-1 on my XLT and a DX-1 on my MXT and i would be lost with out them. weight is not a factor

If the extra weight gets to you simply carry the probe in your pocket. I wear carpenters pants and shorts and the probe slips nicely inside the small built in tool pocket.

I have an arm/shoulder problem and had the same concern but it has not been a problem for me. I know it adds weight but is not noticible to me. HH

[size=large]My mxt pro was bought with one attached. it is nice to have BUT i prefer the garrett and the less amount of noticeable weight when the probe was removed. ( bought the unit used ). same problem as to the shoulders. so i left one clip on the shaft and stick my garrett on it. works okay. the garrett really rattles the mxt though. freq. are almost the same. does the same noice dance with a Garrett AT PRO around.just gets down to what you want to put up with. the dx-1 probe often times takes longer to find the target. the garrett lets you know from all sides.i did like the dx some but not enough to replace my garrett or put up with the extra weight. the hobby is very personal from what kind of machine to headphones and probes.it's your comfort while hunting that counts.

Personally, I used the Sunray on a F75 LTD & didn't really like it. (I have a neck shoulder prob. too) It was a little cumbersome to me. I guess I'm an old dog but before I got back into 'tecting recently, I didn't know what a "Probe" was! I'm getting the White's pinpointer with my MXT pro soon but would sure love to have the Garrett! I've never heard a bad thing about it!! As widebody stated above, this is a very "personal" hobby. Do what works & what's comfortable!! HH :pulltab:

You really need the Bulleseye or Sunray with your my series machine. The G - Propointer and M series has a lot of cross talk especially at high gain. I got tired of either turning my M6 down of off every time I used the Propointer. So Sunray # 3 was bought. Works great.
