Sunray probe on MXT.

How does the sunray probe work on the standard MXT? If I remember what i have read, the new PRO has a trigger lock that is set to operate the probe. How do you operate the probe on the standard MXT?

The Sunray box has a switch on it marked Coil and Probe leave it in coil position until you hit a target

then remove the probe put switch into probe position and retrieve your find , replace your probe and

switch back to coil position . I would imagine it works just the same on the Pro.

using the SunRay in-line probe, is that if you want to check a hole using the All Metal mode, you can lock the trigger forward. On the standard MXT and MXT 300 you can use the pinpointing probe in the Discriminate mode and just move it around slightly. It works fine. If you want to check a hole or pile in an All Metal mode, you need to hold the trigger toggle back in the Pinpoint function with one hand and work the SunRay probe with the other hand.

With the SunRay Pro, former trigger functions have been moved to the touch-pad functions and now the locked-forward setting stays locked in All Metal for one-hand operation of the probe. For those who like using the SunRay pinpointer in both mode functions, the new MXT Pro is a definite plus for them.

I do not want to have to hold the trigger back with one hand and pinpoint with the other hand. I was hoping I could use the Sunray probe on my mxt but it looks like i need to find another solution. I hunt in relic mode with trigger forward.

You've got it wrong. You don't have to hold the trigger back. Just flip the switch on the pinpointer and you're good to go with finding your target. It doesn't get any easier than the SunRay DX-1 pinpointer. HH, Nancy

I guess I need clarification to what Monte posted.

What Nancy implied is that you do not HAVE to go to All Metal mode to use the DX-1, just switch to the DX-1 and it works just fine. The advantage of using All Metal Mode (pinpoint) with the DX-1 is you gain a little more depth and it is a little more precise, but you also lose the discrimination function.

The Sunray is easy to use on the MXT and the best probe I've used to date. Don't back away from it as you'll really like it in action.

GREGP,
I started out with a hand held probe and it worked OK, but I kept reading about this in-line probe thing and how good it was...
Well I broke down and ponyed up the $$ and bought the DX-1, hooked it up to my MXT and headed out to give it a try...
I went to a local park where I hunt all the time, so I knew what to expect. I hit a nice target and reached down and flipped the probe switch, bent down and
waved the probe over the target location. My MXT sounded off the same as if I were swinging my coil over the target. Beep Beep as I X'ed the target.
I knew right where the target was and my screen on the MXT said VDI +8. I thought well it's another piece of foil or beaver tail off a tab...
I stuck my digger in the soil and up popped a nice little 10K gold ring. I thought Woo Hoo I just paid for my probe... first dig....
Anyway...
The point after all my babbling is that the DX-1 is a great probe and well worth the $$, it's easy to use and there is NO way to leave it behind (which I did a few times with the other hand held).
The DX-1 has a separate little switch box that attaches in-line of your coil that when switched changes from coil to probe and back.
Just flip the switch to probe and wave the probe over the target and if you need to narrow it down closer pull the pinpoint trigger on your MXT to switch into all-metal pinpoint and the DX-1 works just like pinpointing with your big coil. I do this when down at the lake hunting around the rocks where my shooter coil can't get into.
I hope all this makes sense and helps...

The in-line pinpointing probe works just the same with any detector in the motion-based Discriminate mode, as I stated below in the bold color. In black bold I just pointed out that if you want to use the All Metal mode, then with the MXT and MXT 300 you need to pull the MXT's trigger into Pinpoint, but the MXT Pro was changed by popular request. Many avid White's users of other models liked the locked-forward trigger to activate All Metal, especially many who do use a SunRay in-line probe and wanted that MXT function change.

If your only interest is using the probe on your current MXT, have at it! They work well as all you need to do is flip the shift box from the detector's coil to the pinpointing probe and work in in the dirt or hole. It's no different than it used to be. Only the MXT Pro has a change to allow a lock-in, if you want to use All Metal mode.
