This coil is for the sovereign. My question is does it also fit on the Excal and if it does is it better than the stock 10 inch coil?

yes if its the S12 (same as the Sovereign mod) it will work on the Excal..you just have to hard wire it in or use a water proof connector.and for the beach,i think its the best coil ever made!

make sure u have the S-12 and not X-12

better................toss up..........move coverage...........yes..................pretty light also.............works great on GT's

although GT and Excal. are the same, i do not think the newer model S-12s will work toooo good on Excal.........but that really is a question for ralph at sunray..........i would call and talk to them 1st before buying for newer excals.

the older S-12's worked great on excal..

f y i only

that they are electrically compatible and they are I put one on an Excal the other day.

he will tell you that the warranty is voided if you cut the plug off which makes sense to me. I bought a used S-12 and put a plug on it for use with my Excal.

It's for sure the lightest of the bigger coils. Even lighter than the 10" Tornado that comes on the GT. Here's a link to a thread discussing various coils. Several weights are listed but if you scroll to about the 2nd or 3rd last message you'll see a more complete listing of weights in pure ounces for easier comparison as well as price of them.

cut the plug.................bingo

but he said something about a chip in the coil and that is why he did not think it would work on EITHER the new excals or his newer style S-12 is different.

i got one, but the plug...............changed it out and added to excal..................i was not happy, i called ralph he i sent it back to his repair guy in florida and had them replace the sov GT plug correctly and it works fine on the GT

could have i had it wired up wrong...............i tried several different connections

that is why i said call him and get his thoughts.

just got email from a buddy

he says here is some good info. from Docs site regarding his WOT coil install

http://www.docsdetecting.com/coiltek/connect.html

Thanks I got the info from Doc's site already. I took the advice that you gave me over the phone last year and bought a N.Y. style Excal with the red head phones, as a matter of fact I now own two of them.

I found that on the S-12 plug, pin 2 is the red wire and and pin 1 is it's shield. This is the transmit winding.
Pin 4 is the clear wire and pin 3 is it's shield. This is the receive winding.

Connections will very on the Excal end depending on which detector you have.

Never heard this...If I'm reading your message right (?) your saying that there is a difference between a new S-12 and older ones involving the coil chip, or are you saying there is a difference between newer Sovereigns/Excals and older ones that might make new coils incompatible with them? I thought all Sovereign/Excalibur coils had a simple pre-amp circuit in the coil. Nothing more involved than that. Is Minelab some how making their new machines to only work with the chip in their coils? Now I'm even more confused. Anybody know anything about any of this?

I have the same question as critterhunter. Are the new SR Intruder S-12 coils compatible for a coil mod with the new Excalibur II's? If anyone has done this lately, your comments will be greatly appreciated.
