...I put it on the 2500 after supper, and tried it out for a couple hours tonight.
It takes some getting used to with the extra range, as it finds coin-sized targets at 3" instead of at 1/2" or having to almost touch them like the hand held probes I am used to.
It works pretty slick on the 2500. Toggling between DISCRIMINATION and ALL-METAL and PINPOINTING, the probe acts exactly like a little mini-coil. For example, when you have a coin at the bottom of the hole or in the plug, it BELL-TONES like the dickens in DISCRIMINATION.
In one hole, it kept getting reads and I kept digging, ending up with a handful of nails and a bunch of other bits of junk piled by the side of the hole. I can see how this could lead to a whole new way of detecting some spots--micro-detecting--sorting through piles with just the probe and a digger! I can also see where that extra few inches you get when you put the probe to the bottom of the hole will be very useful when giving a hole a final sweep to make sure there's not another coin down there getting left behind.
I'm gonna try to get out and give it a good go in the next week, and if anyone is interested I'll post a report.
