Sunray CZ 12" coil (OPINIONS?)

Well had to buy another CZ3D...just to get the 12" coil...What are the opinions of the Sunray 12' coil?

I bought a CZ5 to get the FZ-12 that came with it. Sold the CZ-5 as I already have a CZ6a and CZ20. I really like the CZ6a / FZ-12 combination at the beach.

Mascard,

I think you will like it. But...do some tests with it on the 3D in enhanced mode. If you will be coin hunting with it, it may not ID some of the older coins in enhanced mode correctly like the stock 8 inch coil.

I did some testing and a few Indian Heads and Buffalo nickels hit mid tone with that coil while hitting high tone with the stock coil. But, I don't coin hunt with that coil and use it like tvr..on my 6a beach hunting so I dig all mid and high tones there anyway.

For open field hunting and beach work, it's a great coil. Pin points dead on and very deep.

So we are buying detectors to get the coils huh ? Gotta love it !

It dosn't weigh anymore than the stock Fisher big coil, covers more ground, goes a tad deeper and pinpoints well so is a good addition to your CZ. Not made anymore and like hens teeth to find one. Certainly not for everywhere you hunt but wheres there is a lot of ground to cover such as a beach or large field works extremely well and one wonders why its out of production but only Sunray knows for sure.

mascard it's a great coil, but what I do notice with it is that is has a tendency to down-average targets, slightly shifting the conductivity window down on the TID. It's not a big deal if you know it (dig those iron bouncers!). I want to get my CZ70 retuned to the FZ12, as it's the only coil I use and I think properly tuned to the coil it would be a KILLER machine.

Or do you have to send it in to FT ?

I only use my FZ12 on my 6a's ( which both are older, hot machines) for beach hunting and wonder if the tuning would help with the ID. I don't care if it averages a coin down into the mid tone since I dig those tones, but I don't like the idea of it averaging down a mid tone to low, especially if the stock or 10.5 would still beep mid tone on the same target.

I know when I tested the FZ12 on my 3D, in enhanced mode, it did ID some test targets lower than the stock coil. Some bigger, gold rings and gold coins hit high tone with the stock coil..mid tone on the FZ12 ( same distance). Like I stated, that's ok since I would dig those tones beach hunting.

From running CZ's a long time, I do realize deeper targets do average down...and I dig them. What I don't want to happen is most if not all targets, doing this.

JC I didn't get the impression that Tom D would be interested in retuning to the FZ12. I'm planning to purchase a second CZ70 and send the one I currently have to get supertuned to the FZ12, it should be a sight to behold

I think the biggest issue with the FZ12 down-averaging targets that the stock coils don't, is some gold in the foil range, may well hit as iron. I've also noticed that deeeep coins (at the beach) will hit iron, with a few bounces to coin. As long as you understand what's happening, I think you're OK, but with the CZ tuned the FZ12 it should be lethal.

Brian
