SunRay 12.5

Everyone has asked for opinions in the past about the SunRay and can tell you it's deep. I've used it several times since I bought it early in 2005. Yesterday, I had a chance to take it to a place I've pounded with just about every coil I have between my 3D and my Explorer. I can honestly say that the 12.5 on my 3D pulls in extremely deep nickels like no other combo I have ever seen. I was digging nickels in the 9-10 inch range which is unheard of in my area... at least it is for me. Yesterday isn't the first time the 12.5 zero'd in on deep nickels. It just occured to me yesterday everytime I use the 12.5 it gets some extremely deep nickels. The other interesting thing that happened was I dug a wheatie that was in the same hole as a nail and was above the wheatie. I am not sure if that was a case of the coil 'seeing around' the nail but it hit high tone when I crossed it too. I ended up putting my 8 back on as I got into a trashy area. I dug a 39 Merc with the 8 inch close to other trash. That 8 inch coil just loves those dimes and seems to be able to sniff them out like no other coil especially of that size. I have been using the Explorer/3D combo for 2 hunting seasons so far. I personally think it's one of the best combos I've ever had. I think they're both fantastic machines. What one machine seems to miss the other gets... :)

Gee never owned one, but met a fellow in a park with one on and the airtests were quite impressive...
As far as Namvetsles using two machines its a great idea..Heck some old yards I hit with several units and surprising how one machine will grab a nice coin the others missed..

Although I haven't used a cz in a couple years now I always followed up the 8" coil with the 10.5" at every site. From your report and in my experience also, larger coils in moderate trash/iron can and do light up some targets not seen by the smaller ones due to certain masking conditions.

I've got a few really junky sites here that I've hunted with all three coils on my CZ-5, and I've pulled good targets in the same spot with all three coils. You have to go really slow with the big loop in trash, but it does pull stuff up.

I agree any site should be hit with multiple coils and machines. Each of my 3D coils seems to be good at pulling up goodies in different types of places. I wouldn't trade any of them. I still need to buy a 5 inch for my 3D. I just need to stop buying astronomical equipment for a little bit and buy one... ;)

I am definitely a believer in using multiple machines. Each has their merits.
