Sundays QXT Finds

Rain stopped late afternoon so I decided to head back to the same school. See if I could land another ring. I'll be darned if I didn't. Probably 10 feet from the previous one. This one is just a plated pewter. Made my heart jump though. Decent pile of clad too. I won't bore you with all the pulltabs and foil balls :). This machine really has a sweet audio response. I think with some more practice with this machine I'll easily be able to discern trash from treasure before even glancing at the screen. Well I'm off to swing in my parent's yard. See if i can find some of those HotWheels I lost many moons ago. Mike

Hey OhioMike your making us look bad! It looks like you and your QXT are a match keep it up!

Your right about the match Davy. Since I got back into detecting a few years ago I've tried alot of makes and models. Very nice units but I just didn't click
with any of them. Bought a Classic id off CraigsList and I knew I was on the right track. Started reading CritterHunters posts about the Quantum's. Got mine and well it "clicked". I think all of the major brands make nice detectors. It's just a matter of individual tastes. Ok, this time I'm really off to hunt. Mike

If you set it up the way I say in the tips page (but turn tracking OFF) and use it right you'll find the thing will out do most machines on the market in terms of depth on silver and copper coins. In fact, I never dug a deeper silver coin on my Explorers than I did with my QXT. Short fast sweeps on the deepies is also a must to pull out the proper ID and tone. Yes, it's got a very fast recovery speed and the audio is about the best there is. Nice and long with plenty of "meat" to dissect, unlike the "beep and dig" of some machines. My Sovereign GT is the first non-Whites I've found to have the same tone length/quality, and the added bonus of the multiple tones of a Sovereign makes it a bit better to me in audio information. My two main complaints with the QXT was the lack of larger coils in say a DD at about 12" or so in size to push the coin depths even further, and no VDI numerical number to split hairs easier on say rings and tabs. There are other ways around that (audio, how the ID reacts, and the sizing bars), but it sure is easier with a good VDI scale. I always wished I could hook up with one of these wiz kid hackers and have them hack the software on a QXT to add the numerical target value. I bet it would be fairly easy to do for somebody who knows how to hack the software on various devices. Any of you guys have a son who needs to be kept out of jail by doing something legal with his hacking skills?

Great start Mike ! Looks like you found the perfect partner. I agree, the tone harmonics, sounds etc of the QXT are great. Keep it up.

Yeah, even clad makes me feel like a kid digging up pirate's treasure. Gotta love this hobby. Mike

My feelings exactly Mike. My detector is a time machine.
