My husband and I stole away from the rest of the home crew for a private day of hiking and hunting.
Stage one: The Trail Hunt
This one I call "Horseshoe Crab Mushroom" -- anyone know its classified name? What caught my attention is the blade of grass piercing through the mushroom's cap.

Here, the structural strength remains of a tree:

Two types of fungi -- the image of the white stuff is fairly clear -- tho what I would like is to be able to have a sharp image of the intricate details of just ONE of those tiny things. I am not sure my camera has the capability to do so. Or is it me?? Same goes for the blurry mass of yellow gel formations -- I desire images such as what may be viewed through a microscope!! I am so far from that. aaaargh. Any help on this?? The DCE program that Crazyman shared with us may serve tutorial to show how slight adjustments in settings may alter image results -- I suggest to check it out if you haven't yet.

It happened that our trail was connected in the woods to another by paint markings, yet was not reflected as so on any map -- our 1 hour walk turned into a 4 hour one. We were ever so ready to be cooled by lake water.
Stage Two: The Water Hunt
Here is a shot if my husband's finds (minus the trash) atop a backpak. Again, I was not able to produce a clear image.

The tiny baby ring on the far left is 10k with a diamond. The plain band beneath it is silver with gold plating. The largest ring is silver -- seems someone ground off a design or inscription to hide its identity.

Hi Adria, Can't tell you about your focusing, I have the same problems with my Nikon. Nice finds by your husband with his detector. However, we have the real Horseshoe Crabs along the coastline of the Delaware Bay, but I must say that that mushroom is similiar in appearance! <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)"> Don in South Jersey

What camera are you using? Some cameras have a tough time with closeups. There are some good macro lenses for most cameras. I've seen some excellent macro shots from people using a good ole fashioned magnifier but I bet it's not easy without a tripod.

the option of lens exchange -- seems to be a "use at it comes" unit. I am dreaming of a DSLR! Interesting idea to shoot with a magnifying glass -- tricky, yet challenging -- uh... don't hold it up to the sun, right?::giggle::
