Sunday in a feild of Nickels

Wandering Yoda

New member
Got out Sunday for some fresh air and to root out some clad. Wandered over to an elementary school I hadn't detected before. Did the playground equipment 1st and found 2 silver colored rings. Both were laying on top of the grass. One was obviously a small girls 2014 class ring and the other somewhat larger ring with blue tape wrapped around it to fit a finger better. An hour later a young girl and her brother come up, she had lost her rings. So I asked her to describe them, and she does right down to the blue tape wrapped around the one. So after a big smile she went on her way happy and relieved. I just didn't get any pictures of the rings dang it!!:sadwalk: Anyways the rest of the day was clad clad clad.... And the most nickels I've ever found in one day, 80. I'd say 98% were in one corner of a football field, scattered in bunches in an area probably 20x30'. I was still getting low 50's on the Pro when exhaustion and sunset sent this grubby fellow to the showers. Totaled out over $31 with the Harrison dollar coin. 242 coins in the pouch, and now onward to the tumbler!!!!

WOW! :surprised::drool: Now thats a day to remember! Its tough enough to get a century day let alone a 242! And 80 nickels is quite remarkable! as is a dual ring return! Man, 31 bucks in clad! this is one for the books! Do you dig clad or stab it with a screwdriver? You obviously have a fast retrieval method, and did not get distracted by all the Q and D's in there, most would have highgraded that place for the Q's, great to see you went after it all!....Super cool there Yoda!:clapping::beers:

Almost enough to make me leave the water for Tot Lots.
If I could use my scoop and not have to get down on my knees to dig the targets I might try dirt digging again.
Until then, enjoy each target, I'll stay in the water. and leave the dirt for you...and Congrats on such a memorable day.

The force was with you, Yoda!! You must've spent more time on your knees than a holy man! Truly impressive and kudos for the double ring return! :please:

That is one heck of a clad hunt, for sure and a outstanding job on all the nickels. Terrific job! HH jim tn

Man, you think you got some more of those honey holes? Bet there's still plenty left from that hunt. Banner day!

Your a machine :clapping: Outstanding day, can't wait to see what else you come up with after you get all the nickels cleaned up.

Wow, fellowsthank you for all the replies!! :please: And LOL yes William I was down on my knees a lot, and a few times I just sat down and used the Pro-pointer. Mud, I use an ice pick and a Lesche digger. Usually when the pick hits the coin I know if I can pop it or if the heavy machinery needs deploying. Although I've been considering switching to the more durable screwdriver. WaterWalker, if I saw ocean gold in my sand scoop like some of your stuff I'd morph into a beach bum for sure:bouncy: And jim tn, sparkster, ddmk6, Forrest Mc, and metalfun thank you for the very kind words and taking the time to post. Surf N Turf I was using the stock coil. But, a 5x8 will be joining the team as soon as I can swing one. Dancer, yeah there are some nice honey holes out there, and of course if you start piling up quarters then you know nobody's been in there digging it up and it's game on then:detecting:. A bicentennial dig, that's a cool term Leslie, I will use that next time with your permission of course:bouncy:

I think this is a real world birecord.:nopity: From coins and knee pain my God! This is a real "Great job." :clapping:
I would like to know something about that 242 dollar :look:
senda

ONLY ONE PROBLEM WITH THE AT PRO>>>>>>> IT GOS TOO DEEP IN THE HARD VIRGINIA CLAY SOIL.:clapping::drinking: HARD FOR ME TO DIG IN DRY SOIL. (70 NOW) BUT I'LL KEEP TRING)
I'LL STICK MOSTLY TO LAKES AND BEACHES

Right you are tarajudy, sometimes, especially in dry summer conditions, nothing short of a Bobcat will bust up the VA clay!!:detecting: Thank you senda for the kind words HH

That's a crazy time. All those five centers! A gold ring would have been on my mind seeing all those nickels popping.
