Since my golf season (my first passion) is winding down I'm getting out for some hunting. I actually prefer detecting from late September until the ground freezes since there are less people around, less annoying insects and the ground is generally more saturated with moisture and easier to dig in. I went to one of our Pittsburgh City parks which is located on the north side of the city. The area, in the 18th century and part of the 19th century was know as Allegheny City before it became part of the City of Pittsburgh. The area was first inhabited by white people during the mid 1700's. Beyond Allegheny City were hostile Indians. Anyway in about a 2 1/2 hour hunt I found the 1897 and 1902 Barber dimes and the 1928 and 1941 Mercs. My last find was a 1914 Lincoln (no D this time). And also in the spirit of a city park I found a 9mm shell casing. Made we wonder if the bullet met it's mark. The dimes were all at around six inches down and I was hunting with the 10X12 SEF coil on the EX II. I could hunt this park at three hour clips once a week until the end of the year and still not cover more than about half of the park. It is huge!
