G,day All i managed to get in 4hrs detecting on sunday arvo, i decided to drive to a little spot i was told about by a older gentleman that went to school there many many years ago.He told me the school is no longer there it was bulldozed about 30 years ago,but they only dozed the school itself. He roughly described where the play areas were which was a great help. The site was about 20 mins away from home which was good so i wasnt worried about the fuel consuption that would occur. When i arrived at the site it looked like a park had been formed out of the old school ground which was a bonus because there would be goldies for sure (Australian $1 & $2 coins ) . I quickly geared up & set off,I set sens to 10,enabled belltone, audio boost on for any faint targets,I was using my 10"x14" power DD coil so depth wasnt a problem.First swing just inside of old gate entrance bang belltone went off 1st goldie a $2 coin about 3" deep!.I decided to search a area about 25m x 5m & slow down my swing speed.Well about 1hr later i was searching under a big old oak tree & Bang the belltone went off in a big way i thought it was a another old penny but after digging down about 7 inches deep i revealed a nice 1946 Florin in good cond.I was stoked because in 2years detecting ive only found 3 of these coins.
My total after 4hrs was $16.36 in clad & 1946 Florin,1935 Penny,1949 Penny,1956 Penny & 1936 Half Penny-1 very old toy car Rolls Royce Silver Shadow found at depth 8" deep.
The site itself is about 200m x 50m so im sure i will find many more coins here again in up coming trips. Here's a pic of what i found.

Very nice haul, Freddie. I love the coinage of other countries even better than my own! The GTA was one of my first high-dollar units and I still have one, albeit a GTP, these days.
I ALWAYS ask someone who may know: "What USED to be there?". I always try to get as much detail, too, as to how things were laid out, etc. I see you wisely follow the same course.
If I may paraphrase H.Glenn Carson:
'A nice coin occupies some fraction of a square inch. However, the possible area in which to search for that coin can measure in square feet, square acres, or worse, square miles. Narrow it down.'
Well done, mate.

I'm surprised that you were able to find much of anything and especially at those depths. The DD coils do work better in highly mineralized soils though. I don't know detectors cost in Australia but it shouldn't take long to pay for one if you found coins at that rate. Not being familiar with your coins, what is special about a Florin?

Thanks Bob, yeah there pretty unique units alright!

G,day Paul yeah detectors are fairly pricey here in Aus.But theres plenty of coins out here to be found if you do the hours & research of course. Paul the Aus Florin was silver, weight 11.31grm size 28.5mm
with edge reeded. But i just like the look of them & the way they go off with the belltone.
Freddy.

Although I have other and newer machines, the old 1000 PM will still hunt with the best of them.
I use the 5.5" Ferrett coil on mine as my main trashy-site rig. It will still bang coins down to about 7" with the little coil and with great target seperation.
Newer doesn't always mean better!

Yeah years ago I was hunting a park next to a golf course that had a long bank along one side that run up from the park and golf course to the street above.
I got to talking to an old fellow who had lived there all his life and asked him for a little history. Seems there used to be a horse race track there many years ago before the park and golf course and that long bank was where the grandstand was located. Did I have fun there.
