Sunday afternoon finds.

You are getting amongst those 1700 coins yourself now. After finding the Mexican 1 Real with the hole in it I did some searching on the net. There were two schools of thought, 1st was that small coins were threaded on wire so they didn't get lost as easily (didn't work in the case of the coin I found and in yours) 2nd was that coins were sewn onto an article of clothing so the person always had some change on their person. These explanations may be why the hole is in the coin, then again the net is not always right I guess

Thats some good info. I've heard about stringing them so you wouldnt lose them. I guess that really did'nt work because I do find alot of coins with holes. Usually the real small silver coins.

More sweet finds. Amazing how you are cranking out the finds. A 1700's coin in the condition you have is great - even if it has the hole.
