Sun Ray X5 Coil Question

New member
I just bought a Sun Ray X5 coil for my E-Trac and found that the spiral part of the cable was larger in diameter than the bore of the Minelab lower shaft. The only way that I could get it through the shaft was to attach a string and slowly pull it through. Has anyone had this problem.? I don't like pulling the spiral part through since it can get stretched.

I also found this, but my solution was to make the coil tighter by turning it and pushing it into the rod. Then shake the end where the connection will come out, the weight will help it come out.

I have the same issue on all my Sunray coils for the E-Trac. The easiest way to get around the issue is to pick up another lower rod for the X-5 (Only have to fish it through once), but they are a bit pricey.

After I had my E-trac about a year the ears where the shaft connects broke off. I had to replace it with a new Pro Coil, the coil cable on the new coil would not fit down that tube. I tried several different ideas but finally got it down the tube with coat hanger. I also tried the string, but the string I had broke and was just not strong enough.

Yeah, the coiled wire is tight on mine too. I ended up getting another lower rod for mine but one thing that does help is to take your gun cleaning rod and push a rag through the inside of the lower rod that you treat with ArmorAll. It cleans the dust out and slicks up the inside of the rod. Works like a champ.

I had the same issue with my X-5. I watched Tim from Treasures Down Under slide the end in the bottom of the lower shaft and then swing it a couple of times and there it was.
I did it a couple of times, and then just ordered another lower shaft. Then I got a Sunray probe, and now everything is on the outside of the shaft anyway. Though I did buy some wide velcro and wrapped most of the wires so they don't get caught in the brush.

Best of Luck,
Mark

Same issue with coilteks I have, the armor all sounds like a good trick but extra lower rods are the way to go but pricey.
I bought a couple non functional detectors and got my extra shafts and various coils I wanted plus my money back reselling
the remainders. Best wishes!
