Sun Ray X-8 coil problem

I was cleaning the coil yesterday. And when I went to take out the 2 coil plugs, the coil's lower cover came off, exposing the expoxy winding covering. I was wondering if any one else has had this problem? I siliconed it back on. I wonder if I should let Ralph at Sun Ray know? Thanks. GARY

Gary, absolutely you should let Ralph know. I'm sure it is under warranty. HH-Coinshooter65.

I called Sun Ray, and they said thats the way it is built to be. It comes apart like that for cleaning. Will not effect the windings. Sorry for the false alarm. GARY

Gary the same happened to my stealth 8 incher. the problem i had was the coil cover would not stay on again. i put a nice thick bead of clear silicone in the cover and pressed it back on and wiped off the excess. this will be helpful and it will also keep out dirt and moisture. hope this helps

Using silicone is fine ... but just don't get too confident especially if you shallow-water hunt. Water and mineralized sand will eventually leak in and will cause erratic behaviour. So make sure you check it from time-to-time and even replace the silicone every once in awhile to ensure stable and maximized performance.
