Sun Ray Headphone Options for CTX 3030

After talking with our headphone manufacturer he offered the following solutions:

(1) You can purchase the adaptor mentioned elsewhere on this forum from Radio Shack or on-line.

(2) You can send in your existing SR Pro Gold headphones for re-wiring for true stereo or mono which will be controlled by the existing mode switch on the headphones. This modification will cost $20.00 + $7.95 for return S&H. I am having a pair made and sent to me (they should arrive here in a few days) so I can try them on various detector models to make sure that they will work - obviously I don't have access to every detector out there but I have enough to try on the major brands - we don't think there will be a problem. Once again, I was informed that any modifications to our phones by other than the manufacturer will definately void the warranty. If you choose to send your SR headphones in for the wiring modification they will have a "S" or "ST" sticker on one muff (as described below) when they are returned to you.

(3) We will be building all new SR headphones with the new wiring platform in the future (once we have spot checked a pair on various models as mentioned above). It will take approximately 2+ wks for the first ones to arrive here at Sun Ray for distribution. The new phones will have a decal on one muff which will say "S" or "ST" so that they can be identified from the existing model. If purchasing a new set be sure to ask your dealer for the model with the "S" or "ST" on the muff when ordering. There are still many of the existing model on distributor's and dealer's shelves so be sure to order the new type if you will be using them on the CTX 3030 w/o the wireless module. The existing model works fine as long as the wireless module is used.

If you choose to send in your SR headhones for modification DO NOT send them to Sun Ray Detector Electronics. We do no repairs (warranty of otherwise) and have no repair parts in stock. Our agreement is that the manufacturer provides ALL warranty and non-warranty repairs. Send them to:

Up until the CTX 3030 was released our Sun Ray headphones have worked with every model of Minelab detectors and all other brand detectors except the Nautilus. The new modified Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones will now also work with the Nautilus detector.

I will post the results of my tests, mentioned above, on this forum as soon as I have completed them with the new model.

Thank you.

Great information Ralph - your quick and concise response to this issue is appreciated. I have dealt with your headphone guys in Alabama and they are first rate.

Hi Ralph,

This may be a dumb question (sorry if it is) but if I use the mono adapter do I get mono sound ?
or do I get stereo sound as before with my Pro Golds ?
.... I dont want to use an adapter if it is a disadvantage in sound quality

thanks

You will get mono sound but I can't tell the difference between the two modes the way I have been using the CTX, (Coins)

Although it's mono, you'll still get the same sound to both speakers. No difference then before. Your Pro Gold's, even though it had a stereo plug, was still "wired" as mono. You did not get different sounds on each speaker. Unless you have the one made for the Nautilus, which is a true stereo detector.

GpSnoopy is correct. You will not see a difference using the adaptor mentioned from the headphones as they are now. They are not wired "True Stereo" - only the specially wired headphones for the Nautilus are wired true stereo.
