Sun Ray FZ-12 hunt

Everyone's been looking for some opinions on the FZ-12. So, I decided I would put mine on today. I got to say Ralph at Sun Ray did a good job with this coil. It's about as well balanced as a coil that big can be. The quality of construction of the coil is first rate as is everything Sun Ray makes. I took to a park I have pounded hard. To give you an idea of what this coil is up against. I will tell you all what I have used extensively up at this park. Minelab Explorer with 5", 10.5" and 15" coils. Fisher CZ-3D with 8" & 10.5" coils. You can ask anyone that has hunted with me that I am not afraid to dig... :) I let my buddy's wife use my 10.5 coil on her 3D. I arrived a little bit later than my two hunting buddies. I walked out onto the field and the first target I dug was a 41D Merc. There are particular parts of this park that I have pounded because they have given up a decent amount of good coins. So, to come away with a keeper right away put a smile on my face. I ended up digging 5 wheaties, a Merc and about 8 clad coins. Interestingly enough the deepest coin was a memorial penny in excess of 10 inches. The thing that got my interest is the 3D GB at about 4.1-4.2. I wouldn't think a 12.5 coil in that kind of soil would ID something that deep in soil that GB that low. The 10.5 has gone that deep but in soil that GB around 5.7-5.8 which can make a difference. The other thing I should note is that I personally think the FZ-12 was at a bit of a disadvantage today in depth because the weather trend has been somewhat drier around here lately. That in itself can make alot of difference. There's probably alot of opinions on whether wet soil would have helped or hindered. Everytime I have had the FZ-12 on it has found some real deep keeper coins. I should also say my buddy John was using an Explorer/10.5 and only found 3 clad. His wife found 2-3 clad coins... 3D/10.5. That saying something for this coil... in the right place it will do a good job. I am wondering if I find some tamer soil how much of a difference it will make. Typically, my 3D get alot better depth when it GB above 5. I'll keep you all posted. It definitely looks like a real good coil. HH!

PS I did forget to say at this park there's not alot of trash. Most everything is deep. I don't know if it has been hunted by someone who could only get down 6-7 inches or what. Depth is your friend at this park...

I also noted the difference in ground balancing in my field test & I really like the coil alot (so much I just sold the 10.5"). It even seemed to do pretty well in a fairly iron trashy area.....
