Summer SUCKS!! - at least for detecting

New member
Guess I'll be putting my MXT away for another season unless I find a really good new spot. Just can't get a good swing with the weeds the way they are now.

Summer is just the beginning and now is the time to get out and do some hunting after such a long winter. I know there are lots of areas that don't have tall grass and weeds. Where is it you live that you can't hunt anymore? Don't you have parks, campgrounds, lakes, rivers, fairgrounds etc. I think if you will look around there are lots of places to metal detect. Ah, now come on. You aren't serious?? You've got to have MD spots around. There's so many places out there. Just like Dennis a.k.a. steelheadfever had said. This is prime time for detecting. Kids are outside playing and loosing all their clad, jewelry, and who knows what else. That metal detector of yours will sniff it out and you'll have a pocket full of found treasures. Let us know if we can help out any in finding you a spot to detect. Just need to know where you're from....HH to all, Nancy

I agree to a point about Summer. Here in New Mexico it's kinda hard to get too enthused about detecting when it's over 100 degrees!!! We have about 2-3 hours in the morning, after that it's no fun.

Get a weed wacker. Thats part of the price you pay when you buy a metal detector, or else confine yourself to public parks.
Thats just how it is!

Here in VERY southern Arizona we don't seem to have that problem.... Unless we water the thing, we don't see a weed for years at a time!

But the flamin' heat makes up for it....

Its the same later in the summer here in Idaho, but 2 to 3 hours is just right for this old man. HH Dennis in Idaho[quote xwyokid]I agree to a point about Summer. Yeah, here in the South its smarter to just give up relic hunting for the summer, unless you like Poison Ivy or are immune to it (in my case no to both). And, the snakes and ticks are real concerns. Just easier to hang it up after the beginning of May and fish for the summer. My relic hunting season starts rolling again in late October, so I know what you mean when you say that Summer sucks for metal detecting. I don't have a beach anywhere near me and I'm not into park hunting so I can empathize.

weeds are alot easier to detect in,,,compared to 2 feet of snow.I use a 4X6 DD coil to get between the vines and other vegetation..

I guess it depends where you are. Here in the northeast, now its finaaly our detecting season. The ground is thawed and snow is gone, but we too have a limited time before the woods are overgrown and the bugs are thick!!!!! Right now is great, the rest of the summer I'll be doing parks and woodchips until I can get back to the woods.
