summer headphones

I went out yesterday to buy some earbud style headphones because my whites headphones are really hot in the summer and makes me sweat like crazy. I went out and bought some with adjustable volume and only one ear works. The old headphones are stereo, new headphones are stereo, and size adapter is also. Can anyone else tell me how to get both ears to work? I found this on the whites website, but don't find it especially helpful. I don't have a switch for mono/stereo.

7. I bought a new pair of headphones today and when I plugged them into my detector I only get sound out of one side. What's wrong? [Top of page]

Some detectors have a mono phone jack and will cause this to happen. If your headphones have stereo/mono switch, just move the switch over to mono.

Thanks for any help that you can give me, the big headphones are just too darn hot!!

You might need a stereo to mono adaptor to get both sides to work. I use the SunRay headphones year round, just slightly uncomfortable in the hottest of days with the soft leather ear cups.

I never had a problem with any of the earbuds I have used. I think you got a defective set.

Dave, what machine do you use?i have tried several different sets of other earphones that i know work and all of them are only coming out of one ear when hooked to the detector. then i hook my md headphones up and it works fine. Larry, I think you are onto something there, thanks a bunch. My brother uses the Sunray headphones and likes them, but I was just trying to find something that didn't cover my ear and still had volume control. Which way do i need a converter for, is it stereo to mono, or mono to stereo? I have no idea about this sort of thing, so thanks a bunch for helping.

Now that I think about it, I think you need the Mono to Stereo, sorry, I told you wrong. I'd take your detector to Radio Shack with you in case I'm wrong and you can exchange it without coming back again.

Works great, cooler ears while hunting is on its way. Mono to stereo converter did the trick, thanks Larry. Now I've got Franken-Plug sticking out of the back of my machine (size and mono converters) but am excited to get out with earbuds!
