I have one small problem with new to me Tejon, the extension rod is very tight when trying to adjust the length. Looking for easy fix that somebody may have come up with. I took it all apart and gave it a good cleaning, thinking they may have been a little trail dust in the works, but that didn't help.

Maybe some kind lube, but I am thinking that will make dirt stick to the rod.

could try something like this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/finish-line-dry-teflon-lubricant-120ml-bottle/

or some fine sandpaper to the lower shaft :biggrin:

All a real man needs in this world to survive is a Leatherman multi tool, some duct tape...and a can of WD 40!
It took 39 failed tries to get that formula just right and I have used it in dirty, grimy and sandy situations with good results so I would think it would work pretty good for this application.
Then again my wife seems to think I know nothing about everything so take that into account.
 
yep zip ties , duct tape , a hammer and the wd 40 :clapping: that's funny but all so true and scary too :lmfao:

I believe we call them bush mechanics tools here. :clap:

Best to keep it dry. I had the same problem. Took sand paper to the lower pole. It took a while to get it down so it would not stick. .... KEN
 
Not sure if this helps but the car I just picked up is an old one, from 05. Seemed tight to me too, but noticed if i pit some more elbow grease on the cam lock, there was an extra 1/4 turn left to loosen it and once I did it freed it right up.
Disclaimer, this might not be your issue but was mine. Felt totally loose but it wasn't. Must have been something in there but it's free now and fully opens when I twist the cam lock loose.
Just be careful and hope this helps.
Edit:
When the cam lock is fully loose it will jiggle a bit up and down the pole if that makes sense.

Well...depends on the size of the job.
Small jobs, small hammer....big jobs, BIG hammer.
If you can't finesse it, force it is my motto.

That's what I did too, I think that's the best solution. Either the new lower rods are a little thicker than older ones or the rods/connectors are smaller. They were never this tight before.
 
I started the sandpaper deal last night and I can see it is not going to be a 10 minute job. I worked on it for about 30 minutes and I could tell I done anything yet.

I did check the cam lock and it was fully open and would rattle around when I take the rod out of the shaft.

I have had a number of Tesoro detectors new and used over the years with the same issue. Once in awhile a batch of rods are a few thousandths off & it makes it hard to extend and retract. Sandpaper will do the trick.
 
if ya don't get it to work soon I have an extra lower rod I will send ya and if it works for ya then just send me the bad one for a backup let me know that's about as easy of a fix as I can come up with :detecting:

Thanks so much for the offer, but I am into the sand paper pretty good now and it is working. I sand for 10 or 15 minutes and then try to slip it in the tube and it is getting better.

So I will pass on the offer,
