Suggestions needed for test garden

Idaho-Marke

New member
Hi,

I only want to do this once so I'm soliciting opinions on how to go about building a GOOD test garden.

I have a 10' x 10' space I'm going to use. I want to have jewelry, silver and clad coins, coins with nails near and one them and more.

What do you suggest the spacing between coins etc... should be? Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Thx.

Marke

I have a small 2 foot high pile of dirt behind my shed. I temporarly bury one coin one at a time in the pile for testing.

First make sure there is no metal in the garden. Then space your targets about 16 inches apart. Make a plug whatever depth you want. I have all my targets at 4 inches. But I'm thinking about planting a silver dime at 6 inches maybe more. Anyway once you dig your plug push your targets deep into the side of the hole. This way there is undisturbed soil above your target. Next water your hole and firmly put back your plug. As time goes on you'll get better signals on your targets. Make sure you mark your targets in some way. Or what I did was put them all in a row. I know where my first target is then just memorize the order of your targets.

Make a map of your garden.

Mark the corners of the garden with a conductive marker close to surface but driven into ground so it won't move.

At least one foot between targets. One foot is cramped. Eighteen inches is roomy.

I have Quarters, dimes, nickles and pennies at 3", 4", 5", 6", 7" and 8".

Some people put coins on edge.

I have a large medium and small gold jewelry at 3" deep. Had to find them first.

One mistake I made was to use two other brand of metal detectors to clean out my garden. Then I discovered Tesoro. Now my test garden is just full of signals. It needs to be cleaned using my Tesoro's.

Live and learn.
