Suggestions for Excalibur and DFX travel case

Hello All,

I just received my settlement check from Midwest Refineries and I would like to purchase a travel case for my Excal and DFX.
The wife and I plan on traveling to the Bahamas this fall or possibly to Hawaii. What type of case do I need? How do I take battery packs?
Do the battery packs go with me as carry on or should I carry them with the detector?
Will I need a lockable case or will customs just break open the case if it is locked?

This will be our first real vacation and I want the detectors to make it there along with the luggage.

Thanks in advance for sharing you knowledge with a novice flyer.

You can't beat the case for the money and the protection it offers.. Also...get a TSA lock so only the TSA and open your case.. Beware of luggage handlers!

I went to the Pelican website. What size/model do you use? Do you carry the battery packs in the Pelican case?

Thanks

Picked it up at Wal mart a few years ago for about 25.00. It is a bow case, I had to put padding in the other side, but I can get many combinations of detectors inside. This time there is a Surf PI Pro and Excal but I have had my GPX 4000 and another unit sans coil , lots of room for little misc stuff. Case has been to the U.K. twice Hawaii 3or 4 times around the U.S and the airlines have not made a dent in it while partially destroying my other luggage. It has latches and 2 lock lugs. Since they get into it I don't lock the case but use 2 bungee type cords that are easily removed and replaced...What you will find is that the case is not usually put on the regular luggage dispensing but is taken off and set aside which in a way is handier...Geo

I found a saws-all hard case at a yard sale for $5.00 cut out the molded inner liner bought some foam for a pillow to keep detector and scoop from moving around. It has made a few trips with no problem. I always leave the manual for the detector right on top of everything inside so if customs or TSA want to see what is inside . So far so good, never a problem. HH

I HAVE THE BABBS 2 PIECE TRAVEL STRAIT SHAFT, BRAKES DOWN TO 24 INCHES. I CARRY MY OLD SCOOP, IT IS LIGHTER AND SMALLER.

THE FOAM KEEPS EVERYTHING PLACE, BATTERIES ARE UNDER HAT, ALWAYS REMOVE BATTERIES FROM THE DETECTOR.

Good luck on your trip. HH
