success at first try with my new compadre

early sunday morning, (now, i just returned) i hunted a new (1y ago) kids playground in a local park. its about 10m in diameter. with about 6in depth of sand. found lots of annoying foil n stuff. but also found, 3x $2 coins, 3x 20c, 2x 10, and wait for it.........an american quarter!!! it was in good nick too. all the other coins were looking like crap. the quarter looked shiny new. is there silver in a quarter? its dated 1990.

im now thinking about my next try. i might talk to an old local first and get some ideas. one question though; i was detecting on all metal. so when i went near a metal post holding a slippery dip or swing or see-saw (teeter-totter for you yanks) the compadre would beep and so i couldnt detect near them. i then turned the knob clockwise to the other way and it stopped doing it. i didnt gat a chance to continue and see how it worked as a lady came along and the noise upset her dog. then someone else came and i thought it was time to go. but what had i done by turning the knob? and what would have been the result?

You turned the knob to the discrimination side and discriminated out many trash targets but should still pick up most coins. Another trick to try around the posts is to put the coil's edge against or next to the post and pull directly away. If you pickup another beep as the coil moves from the pole, it is a likely target.

the more you learn it the better your trash to treasure ratio will get, but you will always dig trash and if you dont you will be missing some good finds.
