Got off work a bit early today. Headed out to a bean field where I found evidence of homes in a couple spots. It was about a half mile walk across the field, muddy field in some places. I was in a hurry and didnt check my battery status so I guess you guys know what happened when I got across the field, yeah, batteries were low, lol.
Well, walked back to truck and put some fresh batteries in my detector, didnt have enough time to walk back out there, but did get to hit a neaby spot, found a couple wheaties, got really excited on one hit. Wasnt a good strong hit, but it hit in several directions as a high dime, dug down about six inches and got a small round brass ring looking thing.
Well it was a very pretty afternoon, temps around 50.

It sounds like a good day for a walk anyway John......

Good part is that field is not going anywhere.

Oh, I have my own! This past Xmas, I traveled 40 miles to a friend's 1880 built house and, in my haste, forgot my digger and pin-pointer.

I'm sure we all have a tale to share.

lol, that was a good one go-rebels, I dont feel so dumb now. Well, Im off work today, suppose to be only a 20% on the rain, guess what, its raining atm, talk about luck.
Yeah I was looking forward to get back out there. This particular property was in the mans family since before the Civil War. They showed me where old houses were located at one time (gone now) but all I can find are coins from the 30s and 40s plus I havent found the first square nail. So I began looking on my own, and Sunday I found three spots way on the other side of the old plantation. I know its gotta be some place on that property that holds older things, maybe not much. I just want to find a few older coins and give them to the owner so he can know a bit more history on his property. This property is several thousand acres, farm and woods but it has a bayou that runs the entire length of the property. And it seems after finding the three sites on Sunday that the houses were all next (close) to the old bayou, which makes sense.
Dont forget the batteries!!!!

About ten years ago I had big hunt coming on Sunday. I picked up new batteries and changed them out about mid week so I would not forget them. Came Sunday got out of bed 5:30 drove over 100 miles. Walked out in to field with my hunting Buddy's and turned on my detector a Garrett GTA 1000. It power up than shut down. I turned it back on and again it shut down. We gather around and talked about it a few minutes. We all were fairly new to hunting and not a back up detector between us. I loaded up and went home.

I knew my batteries were good so never check them and was going to ship it back to the dealer for repair or replacement. Didn't git around to it. About a month later my young teenage girls asked me if if I would help a friend find a ring. I told them my detector was broke and I needed to send it in for repairs. One of them asked what happened to it. I told them about putting in the new batteries and going on the hunt. I saw a funny look cross their faces and knew some was up. Want in and got my detector out the den and checked the batteries. Four of them were missing. After 15 years or more that has not happened again

I drove to a site, got out of the truck, opened the bed cover and my detector was not there! I loaded evrything else but it! Luckily, it was only a 15 minute drive home.

i got to a site once to find I left detector on since last hunt-dead batteries-now I keep spares in detector bag-live and learn

Drove 68 miles one way; got suited up THEN found out I left the control box for my Sea Hunter ll at home, but I had
everything else I needed. STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!
