Stupid question on GT series...

From what I gather, the Sovereign series is totally going to be phased out? I guess that is my question. There have been a few in the sovereign series, is the GT the last?

I have not found anything 100%...but I guess minelab is leaning torwards the excal II and 3030...and abandoning ship on the sovereign series. Does anyone know for sure?

Detector manufacturers always have something planned. And we never find out until they are darn good and ready. What you will get is nothing but guesses. I'll start with mine.

I think the BBS platform is about at the end. FBS2 is the future.

In my opinion there is absolutely no need for a meter for beach hunting. Why risk scratching and leaking?

I think somewhere down the road you will see the rebirth of the Sovereign with FBS2 technology. Cheaper than the CTX. The CTX has a loyal following. I had one for a while. A great detector. But there are just too many in this hobby that can't afford it or don't want all the options.

I could be wrong!

Joe,the Sovereign GT is no longer produced by Minelab, but Dealer's still have new stock Sovereign GTs backed by full warranties. The Excal is still being produced and confirms or reinforces that the BBS series Minelab is still a live and well.Still remains to be seen if a new Sovereign model will replace the GT in the future.IMHO the Sovereign is one of the most versatile detectors ever made.HH Ron

I agree goodmore.... FBS makes sense, but i think they are going to improve the Xcal. I cant tell you how often i have to make the choice to grab 1 machine or 2 when heading to the beach. My buddy says he doesnt want to mess with taking a wet/dry sand machine when he has the Xcal and for the most part it gets the depth needed for the targets hes looking for. Using FBS in all their machines would surely reduce costs..... not that this reduced cost would be pasted to us. A lot of people have bought the CTX now, but many kept the Xcal or Sov. Why.... because they are simple and very effective machines for beach hunting. FBS may well give the Xcal the added depth of a Sov with the right adjustments.... woudnt that be nice? The CTX has given snow birds and other dirt digger wanting to try water hunting an opportunity to do that without buying 2 machines.

I hope you are right goodmore! This would be a sweet machine without (hopefully) the hefty price tag.
