Stupid question due to lack of experience....

What do you v3i users mostly use the 6x10 DD coil for.Trash, general hunting ?????????????????????

How is the depth compared to the 10DD ???

Thank you.I'm trying to learn..

The 6x10 is not noted for it's depth. The deepest Whites coil would be the 10D2 for me. According to what you said about your soil I would try the 9.5. Also try salt soil instead of normal or even salt compensate. Also give the 5.3 concentric a try instead of the 6x10 DD.

Will do Sir.and thank you !!

It seems the 6X10 is popular down South in the more mild sandy soils as a general hunting coil but I think they lack the depth in the more mineralized ground. The stock D2 and the SEF 10X12 are popular up our way. The 6X10, 5.3 and SEF 6X8 are good choices in the more trashy grounds.

Thanks Larry......

Elton has salty soil and said a concentric works for him.

As we say "Use what works for you"

Is there anything I need to listen for other than Cattter etc with any particular filter. set... How would I know I needed to change filters other than try different settings on buried coins ??

Is there something that will stand out, or will I just get poor depth if set wrong ????

I purchased the 6x10 a year or so ago. Ran it for a couple of weeks before I decided to go back to the D2 as my main coil. The 6x10 isn't as deep (for me) as the D2, the savings in weight doesn't make much difference to me, and it doesn't work all that much better in trashy areas (for which I have a 5.3 coil anyways).

I should sell it, but I am too lazy I suppose.

Since you and I spoke I have been told the sample soil may have been tainted with Road Salt overspray... after they did a more in depth check....

The first thing I d like to tell you is with metal detecting you have to be patient and dig at least and at first what does reads better on display and sounds better. The 10 d2 coil it is great coil to start, you can separate targets if you take it slow, when it is needed, . But first of all you need to make a practice garden and bury coins and other metal targets to learn targets" signals and the behavior of your detector. The other thing is don't use trashy areas if you are new with hobby, find an area that is cleaner and work there. I m doing this for years and I never use trashy areas.
V3i, minelab Se explorer, xterra.

I have been detecting for 30 plus years... last few years Minelabs, and Fishers.. Though that said till recently I hung on to my Old XLT.. It bit the dust a few weeks ago. Total Melt down.
Always wanting to have a Whites on Hand I bought a really nice "OLD" but almost 8 out of 10 condition 5900 Di Pro SL...

Started using it because it was something different in my Hands.. Remembered how much I enjoy using Whites. My first detector was a Whites, and many after that...... anyway enough rambling
I wanted another Whites.so rather than get a XLT or DFX .decided I wanted a VX3........... Found I could better come up with a V3i on the market..

I did have a Vision.and honest I did not care for it.. Very unstable and unpredictable in the field.. That said the V3i is a Different machine.. It works as it should, with a learning curve for all it can do..

I just needed some advice on simple things, and how too's on some settings. Hence my Post..and I'm fairly certain I will need some more advice LOL

Wow, 30+ years. I'm not even that old Elton. :wiggle:
