This spot is only a few miles from me. Found this on the internet . I will have try to get permission to search it. Its in a wooded area.

". One trader named Smith had a store at the first hollow above the mouth of the bay. Marauding, drunken Indians killed him, and the tradition was that he left a buried keg of money. Robert Masterson, who came here in 1818, gave the pointer for excavating, and much digging was done in the surrounding neighborhood in search of the treasure."

Good luck hope you you find it .

That will be an interesting hunt. Heck, anything from that time will be a good find!

Done some scouting. The area is heavily posted. Not only that but I have been there before. Came in from a different direction and did not know it was the same place. It wasnt posted then. There are old foundations there and tons of trash. So much trash that metal detectors are about useless

The next hollow up I can hunt. There are traces of early settlement there and not trashed up. Indians killed a small band on miners close to this hollow also and they reportedly had a cache buried. I have hunted for that stash before. I may revisit it today.
