Struck Gold...Finally

I had a few minutes during my lunch break, so I drove over to a local park by my office, got out of my car in my shirt & tie, and not 5 minutes later got a signal somewhere near "quarter". Turned out to be a men's pocket watch from the 1920's. 18K, made by a company called Gruen Watch Co. Cost about $500 at the time, which is like 7 or 8 grand in todays dollars.

Any help on how to clean it up is appreciated.

Outstanding!!! I have an old Gruen wrist watch that was my grandfathers. How deep was it?

It was about 3 inches down, near an old tree. At first I Thought it was a bottlecap...

any cleaning advice is appreciated.

Quite a find. I've owned a Gruen or two. In fact one of my detector finds is a gold Gruen wristwatch that is like new.

Hi! Great find!
If you have a rotary tumbler and some Stainless steel shot, that would be a good way to clean it up.
