:stretcher: Wiring issues again

Ok what is the secret to using the Excal 2 without causing a short somewhere ? I have one I bought used with a short in the head phones ,I got new phones replaced and a complete checkup from minelab and it worked great..

I went on vacation this summer and my machine was going haywire.
In a bind I went out and bought another Excal 2 brand new and now it has a short and I have to send both machines in. One is under warranty and the other is not..

I have an elite to keep me a float but it has a slight short which could get worst at any time..

I love Minelab but I am starting to think about getting a Fisher CZ 20 or 21....... I have found many gold rings with my machines and really don't want to make a change because of the great performance.

I had a 1280x a few years back that was built like a tank but sucked in salt water .

It amazes me how the quality of the new Excals is doing down hill Minelab has to have better manufacturing control of there detectors .

dd60, I am a die hard Excal nut but the cost for repair may make me try other options.. I think I will go one more round and the next wireing issue I have I may have to bail out.... I had an etrac and it was like a tank with with two years of hard use and no problems at all. I bought a new excal in June and it is already inop.
Warranty yes but most likly two months away for repairs .. It only has maybe 40 hours on it.

I just recently purchased my first Excal. I was told by a long time owner that the weakest point on the Excal was the wiring from the (Cheap, Junky) headphones to the unit. He recommended that I take a zip tie and zip tie the headphone wire to the top of the control unit so that there would be no strain on or bend in the wire where it comes out of the control unit.

As a Sovereign GT (with Good headphones) user I find the headphone on the Excal to be less than adequate. The sounds between the two machines are miles apart even though they are basically the same machine. Headphones make a world of difference. .

I had my head phones replaced on my other excal and now I have a short somewhere else .I think it is the battery cabel/ wire. Not problem one with the new headphones though.
