Strange threshold sound on my new Cibola.

Macaco

Hi All,

I got my new Cibola a couple days ago and yesterday took it to a new spot to see what it could do. I found a lot of clads which was fun.

One thing was kind of strange though. With the frequency switch in the center position I could get what is probably a normal threshold tone. It sounds like I expect threshold to sound like.

With the switch flipped to the left I get a loud, rapidly pulsing sound when I try to adjust the threshold. Very weird sounding.

With the switch flipped to the right I get a loud, slowly pulsing sound.

Is this normal or should I get the same threshold sound with the switch in any position?

(Another note. I noticed while detecting that the machine hits iron much harder than I thought it would with discrim turned up past the iron range. Maybe that was my fault though because I was scrubbing the coil on the ground. I read last night that the coil should be an inch or two off the ground.)

Anyone else with a Cibola have the weird threshold sounds on their machine?

Thanks.

Mine does not do what you mentioned. Might be a good idea to contact Tesoro, or if you just got it a couple days ago from a local dealer I would get with them as soon as possible.

I tried the machine today in a couple different areas and didn't have the problem at all.

Then I went back to the other area where I did have the problem and the threshold was goofy again. I'm thinking there may be an underground transformer or electric cable there because there's nothing overhead.

The other problem I was having, with the machine hitting hard on small iron...I was swinging the coil too fast. I slowed way down and the iron targets break up or spit now. I'm also keeping the coil about two inches above the ground which seems to help.

So far I'm really impressed with the Cibola. I just need to take some more time to learn what it's telling me.

Heck, since it has a lifetime warranty I'm not in a big hurry to ship it in (I bought it online).

Could have just been something weird at that one spot.

n/t

There is also some high, iron type scaffolding surrounding the area which may be acting as an antenna for the EMF from the buried cable.

No big deal. It's about twenty square feet of grass and there are better areas to hunt at the site anyway.
