Strange thing happening with my V3 that I don't remember before

Finally got to fire up my detector after almost a year.
When the back light is set really low the screen just flashes on and off. If you bump it up to 4 I think it will quit.

do they all do that and/or am I just not remembering?

When I got this machine I took it to pounded sites and pulled 14" Minnie balls out every time I went,

Now I think my coils are out of balance because she's just not working like she used to, other day only got 4 instead of 10 or 12 and about 8 or 9" is all I was getting

Time to send back for the V3i update and get my coils rebalanced, what do you think?

I was thinking upgrade time before I read your last line. It could be that the battery is not charging. What is the voltage reading on the freshly charged battery? Also try some fresh AA (alkaline) batteries.

Where do you store your detector? I hope not a shed or a garage where the temps can reach extreme cold and heat!

Neil, thanks for the reply, I store it in the garage but it is insulated and sheetrocked and have been keeping my detectors there for 20 years with no problems.

I will check again but I was using the non recharge pack with a freshly set of charged NMh batteries and think the voltage was around 11 volts but will have to check it.

If it was the pack you think it would get worse turning up the backlight since it would draw more power.

I really need to send it in for a checkup and get all my coils tweaked. My original DD is not right and I bought a new one to use last year when this one was not working properly.

My 12" was overloading so that is out for sure, not sure about the 950 but am going to send them all in for a checkup.

When this detector was new and was working right I loved it and it was super deep in many different pounded sites that I have hunted some for over 30 years and I can still get some targets with the V3. I have settled into using hi pro but would like to try some silent hunting for super trashy iron sites?

Do you see any drawbacks to the V3i update? I would think the polar plot would be a neat feature? Thanks

I'd check the pack voltage and the contacts. They could be oxidized. What voltage does the V show on the screen?

The coils are good or bad. Did you test them?

Maybe the 14" targets are gone. If it's getting 9" bullets all is working as it should. Unless the coil null has shifted enough to overload it will nor affect performance.

I got my V3i upgraded and I was happy I did. It made the detector a bit more stable allowing me to raise the gains a bit more. I love the Polar Plot feature and find it useful on identifying deep targets, although a lot of other people don't.

Just 2cents worth. Its just not a good idea to store any land detector in a place where dampness or temps are extreme or flux widely. It's known to cause problems with the screens if the area is damp where they are stored for extended periods. They can take alot when being used but for extended storage I'm very particular.
HH!
