strange target

Hi all I told some of you earlier this winter about the rock parking area at a abandon womens prison we been hunting . well we have been doing pretty good but not much old stuff oldest around upper 60's . I have gotten a 119 coins out of there in four hunts there and my hunting buddy has done real well also but not sure how many he has found . Well today I got a good signal that was in the pull tab range but it was real strong so I dug it and to my surprise I dug a used blasting cap , I have no idea why it would of been in there used or other wise as its just a parking lot in a open field . Heres a picture of it .

That's one of the things that keeps me diggin' - I'm always curious as to why the detector beeped in that spot. Fairly often we end up with a puzzle.

try put fire on the string, if a "ssssss" sound begins, RUN!

Im kidding :bouncy:, that object remembers me the handle of a jumping rope, wish you luck identifying it :detecting:

Nope not firing it up I'm not a rocket scientist but smarter than that . It has the back end open and is empty except the piece where the wire comes out . Here's what it says it is if you can read it .

That's a strange find for sure. Was there going to be a break-out at the prison? I think I would call your local authorities and have them come pick it up. We've found many unspent bullets (old and new) and they police are more than happy to come get them and dispose of them properly. The older bullets are the most dangerous. We won't bring them in the house. Thanks for sharing! HH, Nancy

Those are actually more common than you would think.
A lot of geological surveys (oil, water, minerals..etc) use blasting caps buried a foot or so and then detonated.
This is generally done in ditch bottoms and the shoulders of roads, etc.
Unless you are a few feet away you would never knew they were "blasting"

The charge sends a shockwave into the ground. The shockwave return is analyzed with a special device.

You will also see long sections of thin gauge wire from time to time left behind..
