Strange item???

Hey guys,

I have not been able to get out and dig much due to all my TDY's and now I hear I will be going back to Iraq at the end of May :(. A coworker of mine dug this item along with a few bullets and such and asked me to see if I could find out what it is. He dug it when he lived at Fort Lee and said he lived near the RR. Any ideas???

John,

Have you posted this on another Forum? I sure think I've seen this posted recently. I was hoping someone would identify it for you. I have a friend that found something almost identical this past winter.

Take care,

Kim

I wonder if it has anything to do with switching cars from one track to another...d2

Looks like a support foot of somekind, SGTLOWE, but beyond that I'm stumped, too:shrug:

God Bless and be safe in Iraq..:usaflag:

That's a crowfoot from a battery (called a gravity cell) that was used on telegraph lines. Do a Yahoo or Google search on "crowfoot gravity cell" for a lot more information than what I scanned and posted.

Sorry for the duplicate post

Here's a little more explanation-hope the scan is readble after you save it. If not, I'll post a link instead.

Thought you just got back? Did you volunteer for something. You know what they say about that! :) I'm wondering when we are getting the call again too?

Good luck and drive the center of the road!!!

John

Yeah, I just got back in December. I am at the MP School house, at Fort Leonard Wood now and I have to go over to conduct New Equipment Training (NET)for the CROWS program I have been working on. At least I will be back home before hunting season this time :).

Nov. 17th to be exact. made it in time for Thanksgiving. Sad to say not all of us did.

I hear the FOB I was mayor of was handed over to the IA now. I was sure glad to have been where I was. Not too many from Battallion or Brigade messing with our business there. :) We ran our own show as far as our FOB was concerned.

John,

I just saw the ID above a couple of minutes ago. I'm glad that's solved. I'll get onto Google here in a bit and get more information for my friend.... and let him know exactly what he has.

Rick, Thanks from me as well.

Y'all take care!

Hello, puddlejumper. Yeah, it's been a while. This teaching business requires a bunch of my time. Teaching Algebra to a bunch of 9th and 10 graders that see little relevance to it within their lives.... is a chore in and of itself.

I think my oldest son got a renewed appreciation for mathematics and algebra while in Iraq one day. His unit was pinned down behind a low rock/adobe wall after his convoy was attacked from a house. The attackers were shooting from holes in the walls of the house.... and our guys could do them no harm... shooting from the edge of the street. But after the coordinates were called in to whereever........ a missile took the house out..... and, no more shooting.

Will was very glad that several folks new their math..... from the design and manufacture of the missile.... to the coordinates for its impact... and everything in between.... the math worked.

Hope you are doing well, puddlejumper. I'll hopefully be around a bit more.... last day of school is the 26th, then I get to MD more often..... that and a garden will keep me busy, hopefully.

Take care,

Kim

Tim,

Jim has one like this that he found on top of "The Hill" .... in the old house site south of the old road.
