Strange "coin" from the beach

Jiminsandiego

New member
Found this at a beach in So Cal along with a walking liberty half dollar , 4 silver dimes (2 mercury) and a St christopher pendant. For all I know it could be from Disnyland.
Thanks,
Jim

Silver? Aluminum? Looks like written in latin.

What it looks like is a James II England coin if real from 1680s....couldnt find exact same one http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/pics/j2/index.html not sure if halfpenny or not

Forgot to add that on your coin the first letter in his name looks like a j...but online coins it looks like an I, so not sure whats going on with yours.

This coin is a replica I'm sad to say. These coins were made of copper (yours is not) until the period of 1684-1693 when it was made of tin with a copper plug in the center to prevent counterfeiting. The tin would corrode quickly, so they went back to copper in 1694. If it were the tin variety, you would be able to see a copper area in the center surrounded by the remains of a heavily corroded coin from the salt water. Sounds like the other coins were good finds though.
