STRAIGHT UP OR WRAP AROUND ?

HAVE BEEN TOLD YOU SHOULD TIE WRAP YOU COIL WIRE STRAIGHT UP THE SHAFT TO THE POINT OF SECOND HALF OF SHAFT THEN YOU CAN COIL THE REST OF WAY UP AND THIS WILL INCREASE YOUR DEPTH ANY TRUTH BEHIND THIS ?

no not that ive heard, you just want coil wire out of the way this is why most of us wrap coil wire around shaft.....

I come straight up the shaft with my wire. I use an Excalibur and Sovereign GT and hip mount them both. Point being I need all the cable I can get to reach my hip. I have read on forums where people say that it narrows the interference field near the coil or something like that. I started by securing the wire with velcro straps. To put it as nice as I can I would say they suck. Especilly if you are in the waves. Then I found this stuff. I used it all summer and had zero problems including in the surf. No sticky mess. Slice the opposite side away from the wire and it falls off.

Yeah, I've been meaning to do that......

the rap or straight up cable?but Hey, that Tommie Tape looks like it might be somewhat of a remmedy for protecting coil cables from briars. Happen to notice one of my most used coils has it's lower portion of cable full of briars, some imbedded so far as to be out of sight.. After tweezing all the briars out I could I thought it best to reseal the cable and all I had was some of that goopy rubber dip stuff. Messy, but seemed to work pretty good, though I had to "Paint" the goop on.Tommie Tape may work better and may be tougher too. I will see if I can get some at Ace. Thanks, and HH Charlie

Coil cable varies according to how cheap the manufacturer has been. Some have a copper foil shield, others a woven one that will take plenty of flexing. With these it doesn't seem to matter.
Some cheap machines seem to use whatever they had to hand so there is an improvement if the wire is taken straight up. If its an older design where no fibre or plastic lower shaft is used then run the wire on top of the shaft. P.I.'s seem to benefit most but you could try doing a temporary straight run on all your detectors just in case.

Next thing that will come up will be the wire length. Much experimenting was done with Sovereigns and they do seem to run smoother with the cable cut down.

I've heard this too, but I believe it's an old wive's tale. I've tried it both ways, and found absolutely no difference in performance, either way.

I know having the coil coiled in electric lines do reduce the amps and make those areas hotter. Also the length reduces amps. I would assume that could create EMI.... but id say its more about them wiggling around since there is motion. I suspect if there was to much to the wires being coiled then companies like ML wouldn coil them at the top. But i do have mine stright to the upper coil before i coil them. Habit i think.

If you densely wrap the wire (multiple turns close together) on the lower shaft it could interfere with performance because it will appear as an object in the coils field. A light twist of a couple turns on the lower shaft won't affect performance.
