Straight Shaft Question

familycache

New member
Just received the Excalibur II 1000 a couple of weeks ago and am considering the same modification that several of you guys have deemed "necessary".
My question is the noticeable difference between the shaft with the detector under the forearm verses the detector behind your elbow. Last week I used the hip mount while hunting, but would still like to get a straight shaft. Suggestions and or concerns form fellow Excal users would be appreciated. Thanks. familycache

I would think that the electrics under the cuff would give you a slightly more nose heavy coil, ideal for the water but less so out of it, but control box is also in water so more drag, controls easier to reach though, i have the unit behind on a pluggers shaft and the balance is perfect for the wet sand and in the water(waste deep) the electrics aren't submerged as much but more dificult to reach, a friend has made me an under cuff model that should be here tomoz so i will know better in a few days once i test it.

i use Plugger's strait shaft's on all 3 of my detectors and love em.for me the back mount is great.

Whatever you do and wherever you mount the pods, make sure to secure the coil cable so there is zero strain on the connection at the pod! I mount mine on a piece of rod and then attach the rod to the 2" belt" and use a tied loop on the cable to a snap hook on the belt. Be careful with the connections!

I generally hunt 6-8 hours and run a Lightning Rods on all my Excals. I get them from Demarco Detector Sales. Here is a pic from the archives of Gulf Huntress and yours truly, circa 2006.
