Straight shaft for Excal

Getting an Excal delivered on Wednesday. Who has the best straight shaft for it? I've used my friends excal for a couple of weeks and loved it soooo much I bought one of my own. but the idea of moving everything behind the elbow is a great idea..Larry

I like the Lightning Rod from Reilly's Treasure Gold. It's what I use. I used to have another model and I have tried a couple of others on other peoples machines. The RTG shaft is my favorite...lightweight, well built, well balanced.

Larry, I use the Lightning Rod straight shaft. I mainly hunt in the water, so did not want the control housing too far back. It bolts on sideways, just under the cuff. You can view them on the Demarco Detecor Sales web sight and Joe can set you up with one, if you want to go that route. I drilled through the lower part of the Lightning Rod and the fiberglass shaft and installed stainless bolts, flat washers and lock nuts. It is rock solid! Great set-up, but still a little heavy for wetsanding. Been doing more of that here lately, as the water is slow. Good luck to ya mate!

I also have the Lightning Rod from Reillys which is very well made. I however perfer to chest mount the controls to save more weight off the arm. I didn't like the idea of having to insert my arm in the arm cuff everytime I went to use the scoop. The Lightning Rod is longer than the stock rod for the extra reach.

I have been using the shaft made by Ron at Dixie Metal Detectors and it has been working great. Very comfortable and well balanced. The hand grip strap is really a nice feature after a couple of hours of hunting. After using the strap, I wouldn't go back to a hand grip that did not have it. http://dixiemetaldetectors.com/beach-scoops.htm

Mike (Va Beach) suggested that one to me and I really like it. Here the link

I was going to post that link too, but as you can see if you look at it, part of it got auto-edited out. I can guess that is because they are not a forum sponsor. And since it seems that Joe Demarco in Jersey also carries it, I guess that would be the better source to recommend to our forum brothers and sisters. I wasn't thinking about that when I said where I got mine...just weighing in with my favorite shaft. :)

Hi Larry. The forum messed up the link I copied to you because Reilly's is not a forum sponser. Sorry that I couldn't transmit the link to you intact.

That's the one to get. It work very well.

I just got the new over-under straight shaft from Anderson which will fit in my suitcase without being 2 piece . It is very nice and has a padded strapped arm cup unlike my other 2 piece straight shaft . And it's blue . What more can you ask for . Check this one out . It's around $80. US
