Straight Shaft (adjustable 4 to 6 ft) for $11....

I recently bought a UW detector from a guy on here, only the short 2ft suba handle came with it. So I made adjustable straight shaft, cost me $11. For those who really want to streatch out for big long sweeps, this is great. That is if your cable is long enough.

Here is what I used:

Paint roller extention (adjust from 4-6ft) from walmart for $8
4" sewage coupling(not PVC) from Rural King $1.29
PVC 3/4" T for $.59
PVC 6" long pc of 3/4" pipe $.89(had to buy 2ft)
Heavy handle paint roller, old ones will work the best they have solid ends.

I mounted the arm band on with bolts/nuts but the grip I taped with electrical tape. It would have cut down the handle ability to adjust if I had bolted it on. The 3/4" T I had to hone out a little to get it to slide onto the handle, I honed it out just enough so it fit snug. Had to take the handles end cap off to slide the T on. The end cap has a slot in it for easy storage on a wall hook. To attach handle to the coil, I used a old paint roller, had to heat the metal rod up a little and it pulled right out. Slowly heated the roller handle end over low heat on the stove, then put it into a vise and flatened it. Then I ground it down so it would slide into the coil's mounting bracket, marked the hole and drilled it out. And that was it.

Posted some photos below, my dog wanted in one, camera hog...He's just like me, blind in one eye...The first picture I spliced 2 together to show full and shortened extension.

Paint roller handle is made of plastic, that is what most old ones are made of. The older ones where made heavier not hollow like new ones. Auctions are a great place to find old paint rollers, get a whole box of painting supplies usually for a buck or two. Most any handly person has 2 or 3 rollers hanging around in their garage.

Great job,
Thanks for the photos and other information. I just bought a Musketeer, I am thinking of making your, handle for it.

Best Regards,
Steve

On the sleeve band, you can use a 4" PVC collar, but I thought it was heavier and thicker. The 4" sewage coupling I think worked better. It was thinner, lighter, and still stiff. More plastic like. Remember, if you fasten the grip handle on with a nut/bolt or screw, the adjustable bottom part will not slide up into the top part very far. Which may make it to long. That is why I taped mine one. You can also buy shorter 4ft adjustable handles. But I like the 4-6'.

Nice job!

What kind of material is the paint roller extension handle made of?

CJ

Hey Cupajo, I misunderstood your question. My first reply was wrong. I thought you was talking about the paint roller handle, sorry about that.

To answer question: The extension handle is all metal tubing, pretty stout, the end that I screwed the green paint roller handle onto is plastic. In the photo showing the paint roller you can see it, its the black part at end of white extension tube. The closest the metal part is to the top of the coil is 5-1/2". So I don't think thats close enough to interfer with the coil. At least it doesn't on mine. Now if you can find a handle longer to screw onto the extension, then that would encrease the distance from the coil to the metal extension handle.
