Storage

the Swede

Member
What would be a good storage for the valuable items that one find when detecting? I was thinking of using one of these small, plastic containers which is used to protect money and other valuables when swimming - but I am not sure that it will be safe to handle the lid off and on every time a keeper comes along. And what about the trash - where do you put that?

My husband made aprons for us with two large pockets. The right one is for the cell phone, and "goodies", and has velcro all the way across the top. The other is larger, and the coins and trash go in there. I carry a magnet in the trash side, so most of the trash is in one "clump" when I'm done.

empty film tubes are good, bit of cotton wool in bottom and another bit as a plug before putting on the lid(only for amall delacate stuff though, you wouldn't get a dolar in .... unless its a folded bill)

DIve shops sell small 'goodie bags' that have a latch on the top and are solid nylon mesh. You can get them big enough to put your detector in or about the size of a wallet. I just put a piece of cord through the handles and loop the other end on my arm or waders. Gravity keeps it closed and to open you just pull on one side of the top and it splits open, drop your goodie in and let go and it closes. Done many many dives this way and never lost a thing. Tis wise to make sure you didn't snag the bag and have a small hole in it that will let that earing out. Rgards...Jim

I also use a mesh dive bag about 4 inches by 6 inches when laid flat. I use a chest harness and the bag draw string is held by the chest harness strap. Recover target, wiggle fingers into drawn up opening, let go of target and, just like grumpyolman says, let gravity do the rest.
