Stock headphones

I'm having so much fun with my new AT Pro, but being new to the game maybe there is more. So I have questions - Are there really more tones available that my stock headphones are missing? Or is it just a comfort thing for the long hunt?

You're hearing whats going on....... Have fun with it Forrest! Some of the guys just want to use their old/custom headphones, and are wanting to "pimp" their ride

Different headphones aren't gonna give you any more tones or anything. I don't mind the stock headphones, but there are some headphones out there that are very nice(for a price). Comfort is a major factor. Also, better sound by means of eliminating outside noises and other sounds(such as wind, etc.). Ability to here fringe signals more clearly while not letting very loud signals blast your ears off is another major selling point of good quality headphones. There's lots of different brands out there. It's really a personal preference. As I stated earlier, i don't mind the stock headphones. They work just fine for me.:wiggle:

I agree. The stock headphones do let you hear what is going on. The high end headsets exclude all the ambient sound so you can really hear the nuances and details of the detector, and that is my concern. Since they are designed to exclude external background noise that raises a safety issue in not being able to hear what is going on around you. I think it is important to be aware of your surroundings. I think the Garrett headphones strike a good balance between hearing the detector well and still being able to hear somewhat of what is going on around you.

Having said all of that, I cannot wait until I receive my headphone adapter so I can try out a few new headphones that I have put together.

ForrestMc don't go all goofy on us here. You really don't have to have another pair of headphones. Wait until you know for sure if you are going to stay with detecting or not. Bee sting, bad sun burn, batteries go bad and have to walk back 5 miles to the car, frustration, pull tabs, junk and it goes on and on. If you are going to stay with the hobby you could be looking at 30 or more years of doing metal detecting. (I hope) So just enjoy yourself with what you now have and pick up the extras later. Happy Trails....Z

Z, no worries about me going all goofy. I don't make a $10 purchase, let alone buy high-end headsets, without looking at it a zillion different angles . For now, I find the stock phones very comfortable for the 3 hour stints my arthritis allows. Its good to now know that the AT Pro's stock setup is giving me all the info that's there. Couldn't help but wonder if high-end phones were a secret of the Jedi detectorists digging all this cha-ching I see here.
So thanks for the input guys, I'm here for the duration.
Forrest
