Still looking for advice

I want to thank all of you guys that have been trying to help me on this head phone problem, maybe the pic will help?

Looks like your speakers are wired correctly. I didn't read your other posts so I don't know your problem or complaint. If the phones don't work on more than one detector, there is probably a broken wire at a stress point. If the phones work well on one detector but not on another, then it's probably an impedance problem. If the phones are not loud enough get lower impedance phones; if it's too loud for you ears get higher impedance phones. I do support those that sell headsets on this board but if they can't make or won't make or sell phones that work for you they can be purchased elsewhere. The little speakers that comes on the phones are made in 2 common impedances (yes I know you can get speakers in many impedances). In bulk they are quite cheap. Much of they cost we pay is for comfort and ruggedness. Think about what I have stated and do what you need to do.

not all headphones are interchangeable ,the pair i have has a switch you flip when you use them with something other than a minelab......good luck buddy

I need to find out how to put a mico switch in the head set to make the detector think it is mono, even though it is wired mono, the X 70 doesn't see that, these are a SUPER set of phones, they work on all my detectors except the X70. Maybe someone will tell me how to wire in a mico switch like are on my other head phones that have mono or stero. Thanks for all the help

I feel that headphones should have a switch that goes from stereo to mono and another switch that switches from a low impedance to a higher impedance. I have headsets that will switch from stereo to mono. I have a situation where I can use the headset on stereo on one detector. I find to get enough volume on another detector I must go from stereo to mono (on stereo setup)to get enough volume. Now here is what I just said "the impedance needed to be lower on the second detector and by paralleling the speakers I have lowered impedance by about 50%".

What you want to do is possible but I don't think I can give you a good enough instructions in text. If you have friend locally that knows about these things it would be nice. In "rare" instances you can find knowledgeable people at Radio Shack or similar places.

First I am concerned about your drawing, see the red circle, those two wires should not meet at the center post, the green wire is how it should be routed.[attachment 26620 hp.gif]

Next, here is how to wire your plug for use on the X-terra, but it will only work now with maybe a few other brands. If you mis-read the diagram, just reverse red & black, but use the terminals shown. Turn both headphone volumes up full and use the volume control on the machine. [attachment 26621 Plug.gif]

To wire a switch, Switch=Single Pole Double Throw(SPDT)

only thing I hate is that I would like them to work with my Tesoro Deleon TO, and if i understand that is not possible!
Thank you so much,I will rewire and give it a try.
Thanks aain

dude are you trying to bitch at me .......I could care less what you had just said about the impedance and all that mumbo jumbo ......dont mean squat to me .....some people understand very little electrical termonology,If you break it down and say ,,,,Duh I think you need a switch ...it sometimes makes it easier to understand.it sounds like you are trying to talk down to me and I dont like it none ....better stop that nonsense ........Adam

I think you could have went to Radio Shack and got a adapter to go from Stereo to mono and save yourself alot of problems, then when you want to use them on your other detectors just leave the adapter off.

Bill,
I just now got time to wire up those home maid headphones the way you showed me, they only have half the volume they should have, what do you think? I have a Old set Bell & Howell mono headphones that work good on the X70 (real loud), but they are not comfortable, they have Dainichi 0.2w 8 ohm speakers with a transformer hook in line. I have a set of Browning ear muff and was thinking about installing the guts of the Bell & Howell in those muffs, will those speakers work? I know that they work now, but will they hurt my detector? Do they have a good enough range for metal detecting?
Thanks In Advance
Greg Collins
