my son got back change at taco bell yesterday and one of the pennies was a 1908 indian. i have come across silver quarters and dimes, even a buffalo. this is the first time for a indian in circulation. what was the oldest thing you have ever come across in circulation? i have never come across a barber or seated.

i guess for me the oldest Ive ever gotten in change would have to be a buffalo nickel, some silver Roosevelt's at times,a silver Washington too,40% Kennedy halves i still get from time to time:clapping:

Every week when I go to the bank I buy a bag or two of dimes or quarters and any half dollars I can get my hands on. My oldest find was an 1894-s Barber half. I also know of a bank that still has rolls of coins, in its vault from the day the bank opened, in 1902. Can you imagine what would be in those!! All Barbers, except for a few Seated and an occasional Capped Bust. The bank in family owned and they won't part with those rolls, but the girls still have to count them when they inventory the vault.

Thanks for the post, it is a fun topic for a cold snowy day. Gets the juices flowing for spring treasure hunting.

Take care, Dave

While working in retail for a while, I picked up several silver coins and a buffalo or two. Lots of times kids get into their parents collections and spend old coins for candy, drinks, etc. I always check my change and have found some nice coins.
