Still impressed with the old classics

I had the chance to pic up a whites classic III Plus and classic idx.... Impressed with there depths and coverage with the 9.5 blue max coils. None of them have mods, however they get great depth in my clean soil. My wife dug a 1798 draped large cent at 8" while the sensitivity was set to preset. Crazy thing was it was found in our yard. I noted the classic III Plus is just as deep as the idx... Best part is they can be had around $100 + or - the ones I have were made around 1998 to 2001.....it just show they still rock. I wish the idx had tone I'd, but the signal tone audio is better then other anolog machine out there.

I'm with you there JJ.

Although I've always run modded Classics and I do away with the display screens due to hunting mineralized ground, I love to drop back and use single tone units, especially the Classic range as there is a heap of info in that single tone. Differentiating between bottle caps, screw caps, iron and pull tabs versus Coins is a breeze once someone becomes used to the tonal sounds.

I'm still impressed with classic detectors too. I have a Tejon, 1236x2 and surfmaster II vlf. They all hit on my 9" dime. Hard to beat the ease of use.

If my modded IDX Pro had tones I would've never gotten my Explorer2. For real. The Classics are UNREAL!! Once you've used one for a good long time it's part of you. I don't think many other machines have that kind of hold on their operators,I'd NEVER consider selling mine....EVER!
