Still fooling around with the G2, getting ready for my first hunt this weekend.

I know with the F5 I have hunted using only the phase number for target id and did just as good at identifying targets as with the TID number, but of course the TID provided finer resolution. It also provided good "confirmation" data for the target.

I'm pretty sure I can do the same thing with the G2.

The All Metal Mode of the G2 is very sensitive and I was thinking it would be nice to hunt in All metal and use the Ground Phase number as a Target Id number. Just do the "wiggle" over the target and get the phase number to stabilize and presto! You got a TID number. To prep for hunting that way I did some minor tests.

Anybody else use the phase number that way?

It looks like the conductive resolution runs from 0 to 60ish. I haven't looked for the high end number yet. So the resolution will be somewhat like hunting with the Xterra 70/705.

Of course you still have the confirmation of the speedometer reading above it.

Mike, How high are you able to run the gain/sensitivity on your G2 in AM? I always run the gain at the max on my G2 in disc, but when I try that in AM the machine is unusable...I'ved tried turning it down quite a bit and I see little difference. Maybe I am just not used to hunting in AM enough, or maybe my G2 has an issue when in AM. Just curious. I do know that I have went back over areas where I was finding large concentrations of good deep targets in disc mode(CW relics), and have found minie balls at amazing depths in AM ( 12-15") that in disc it could not see at all or was a soft iron reading. Bill.

P.S. to all.... still consider the G2 the best detector I have ever used...would just be great if a certain company would get that 13" Ultimate coil in stock to see if depth can be improved.

On my G2 the VID scale (not the big number as in disc mode) is still active in the All Metal mode which I would assume is the same for all G2's. You need a decent signal for it to work but you will see the 3 segment VID activate when you sweep the target back and forth.

Sekypaleo,
I was able to run my ALL Metal at Max but couldn't keep a steady Threshold at Max settings.
