Sticking With The G2

I have been agonizing over two detectors which I recently purchased used; Fisher F75 and Teknetics G2. The deal I made with my wife was that I could keep only one of them, at least for this year. Well after much consideration and input from the community on various issues, I have decided to keep the G2 and sell the F75 which is now on Craigslist. "Smudge" pretty much summed it up with "do you want to be a micro jewelry hunter or a coin hunter?" Well, I had a lot of fun today in the volleyball sand for several hours. My take was two silver earring backings, 3 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel, and a whole lot of very small bits of foil wads, etc. Since I found this to be fun with the anticipation of finding some micro jewelry, I guess I answered the question posed by smudge and have made my decision. So the G2 forum will be my home for the time being. One can only hope that the F75 will just not sell and I get to keep both.

Glad to hear you made your choice. Too bad you couldn't keep both.

In this hobby, most folks eventually focus on one or the other: coin hunting or jewelry hunting.

I have both machines and it would be hard for me to sell either one. It really depends on what and where you hunt. I mainly hunt for Civil War relics. If I am hunting in a field where relics are usually deeper, I use the F75. If I'm hunting in the woods, I use the G2 because most relics aren't as deep because the ground hasn't been turned like a plowed field. Sorry that you have to get rid of one if them.

Great choice, but I have an advantage over you for sure and that is I can keep any and all detectors I want. My G2, w/5" DD mounted, rides on the van's back seat all the time and the 6x10 elliptical DD is mounted on a spare lower rod for duty when called. It compliments my Tek. Omega and two other detectors, and on the 9-day journey I just returned from on Friday, the G2 showed its abilities quite well.

Enjoy your 'keeper.'
