I BELIEVE PASTOR GREG MISSED THE BOAT A LITTLE..MATTHEW 28:18-20..JESUS SAID ALL POWER IS GIVEN UNTO ME IN HEAVEN & IN EARTH..(JESUS WAS DECLARING HIS GODSHIP TO THE 11 DISCIPLES) AND COMMANDED THEM TO GO INTO ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD,BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON,AND OF THE HOLY GHOST..TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I HAVE COMMANDED YOU,AND LO I AM WITH YOU ALWAY,EVEN UNTO THE END OF THE WORLD..THE DISCIPLES WERE TO BAPTIZE & TEACH, NOT TO MAKE DISCIPLES OF THEM..IT WAS AFTER THIS THAT THEY VOTED FOR WHO WOULD BE THE 12th DISCIPLE.. True, He was speaking to the apostles, but he was speaking to His church at that time--even until now. Every commentary I have states He was talking to His church...then and now...until He comes.
Those of us who are real in Christ have been given testimonies of transformation for to a lost and dying world. Remembering Paul, Timothy, Barabus, Priscilla, Aquilla, Steven, Phillip, just to name a few. The message in Matthew was addressed to each of them as it is to us this day. We must give a ready answer both in and out of season.
I ask that you consult the leading commentaries. So many of them are online now.

I agree with you, Arkie John, we are disciples of Christ when we belong to the Christian Church...The Body of Christ! He places each one where He wants us to be a worker for Him! Also I am a saint of God by accepting Jesus' virgin birth, death and resurrection and don't have to be appointed one after death! I am a saint, a disciple...who lives and teaches the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!! The 12 Apostles Jesus placed in charge after He went up in the Resurrection were to go and make more Apostles (Preachers) and disciples (saints) to carry on the mission of why Jesus came to teach, save and heal before He paid the ultimate price for everyones' sins!
Maybe I'm wrong but I do know I am a Child of God through faith, acceptance of Jesus, water baptism and Baptism of the Holy Ghost! He doesn't appoint us all to go and be missionaries, be preachers, be singers, be teachers, but we can all be witnesses unto the lost for Jesus by how we live, what we say and what we do for Him in His precious name!

Each of your statements is so on the money. I don't go around attempting to argue with folks. But I do think gentle correction is necessary sometimes. I learn something about the Word weekly. If I was "locked in" to "my way of thinking" then how would I grow?
Iron sharpens iron. I really don't care for opinions so much, unless they square with Scripture. So, when I speak with people, I ask for Scriptural references and discount their "beliefs" unless they are Scripturally sound. If they aren't reflected by Scripture then their 'belief systems' are but folley. satan is so good at deception. he does it for a living and he plays for keeps. I don't argue...I just try to enlighten or be enlightened.

I am honored that you will at least consider the thoughts I posted. They are, however, not my thoughts. Consider obtaining a good commentary or three, like Strongs or perhaps (though quite dry) Matthew Henry or even Hershel Hobbs. I don't believe Spurgeon and Finney could have been wrong.
I could live for 300 years, reading daily, and still learn something every time I pick up that most wonderful, indescribable Book!
